What Is EFT?The Emotional Freedom Technique is, according to its creator, Gary Craig, an “emotional version of acupuncture, without the needles”. It is very simple to use, easy to learn, is portable and has been highly effective in treating a wide variety of mental, emotional and physical issues.– success rates of 80 – 95% are common after just a few sessions. It has come into public awareness in recent years having been featured in the media worldwide.
Who Is Gary Craig?Gary Craig is a Stanford engineering graduate and an ordained minister based in Southern California. He was born in 1940, and admits to having become intensely interested in personal improvement via psychology from a very early age. In his early teens he realised that the quality of his thoughts directly influenced the quality of his life.
He has spent his life studying the most effective tools for self improvement and this led him to develop EFT in the early 1990’s. He learned the core principles that he uses from Dr Robert Callaghan, who is responsible for developing Thought Field Therapy (TFT).
He readily points out that he is neither a psychologist or a licensed therapist, and that to learn or practise EFT one does not need to attend intensive courses or have any particular qualifications.
Mr Craig is also a Certified Master in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).
How Does EFT Work?It is based on the energy meridian system which has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years, and which is the foundation for several other complementary therapies and methods of Holistic Healing. The EFT Discovery Statement says that
“The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system”.Albert Einstein told us back in the 1920’s that everything, including our bodies is composed of energy. Therefore by influencing this energy we can clear the blockages that are causing our problems. This is done by gently tapping on a series of acupressure points situated at the ends of the 12 major energy meridians used in Chinese medicine.
While tapping, the client focuses on the problem, repeating a phrase which is worded in a specific way and which is relevant to the issue being dealt with. When the client focuses on the issue while tapping on the meridians that carry the energy, the blockages are cleared and along with them the emotional disruptions.
